What's your guess on this one?

Not a detecting find. Found this in a box from an auction.

It is wax. About 1/16 in dia.

Awww lightn up guys. ...It's a "what is it" And I am certainly interested.

I thought it might have been candle wick material at first but I don't see cord in the center.
Dental wax I thought, came in sheets.

Probably a machine-fed spool for a hot glue using production device.

wax or broken down brittle plastic? piping for upholstery?

it gets sewn into the fabric on the corners and edges

It looks like a spool of old "weed eater" "string" that I bought at an auction two years ago. The stuff was so brittle it was worthless.

Agree'd mojjax.

Spools of wax are all over the internet... used in machining, dentestry and jewelry making. It also comes in a variety of colors and is marked by several companies for those different uses.

Without a lable it'll be difficult to know for what purpose your was was designed/sold.
