Maybe it's the end to a hydraulic hose??

I do believe a "hose end" is exactly it. Many low pressure hoses (such as garden hoses) use connections just like that. If you go to the garden section of your local hardware store and look at the repair kits for garden hoses you'll see such an item.

Good call Mojjax!

I agree...looks like a hose end....most likely off a hydraulic line or fuel line. I;m a commercial fisherman and have seen my fair share of hydraulic lines aboard the boat..:)

That's what I was thinking. There was a good amount of military activity around the area in the past. Maybe a WWII fighter squeezed off a few rounds near the coast back before it was inhabited.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm pretty certain it is a copper jacket from a 50 cal round. The edges are all jagged like a hollow point bullet when it mushrooms.

PBK, is there such a thing?

Sure. Cartridge styles vary. A lot of them look sort of like shotgun shells. Don't think that's what we've got here, however.
