I'm a dime searcher most of the time, but my backup to avoid not having anything to search is copper hoarding, plus finding wheat cents to help with the 12-grandkids folders. Last night was one of those nights, did not want to search for silver dimes while all the baseball games are on TV. So I decided to cut open a box of cents, but when I do, I usually cut open all the rolls and dump them into a tote box(shoe box size) rather processing one roll at a time times 50. As I was dumping roll after roll while cutting, I started to pull out several WHEATIES. My average wheaties count usually runs from 8 to 12 per box. Mind you that these are only the wheat cents that are showing the REVERSE side of the coin for a quick grab. But these seemed a little stranger than a normal box that I've done in the past. These wheats were showing severe signs of wear, very smooth. I have not processed the box yet like I normally do, but the WHEAT take so far is 68 coins and I'm sure more to yet be uncovered. Of the 68, the majority of them at 46 are in the 1909-1939 range, and only 22 in the 1940-1956. Below is a breakdown by years 19XX: FOR THE EARLIEST 46 COINS, as:09x2(no VDB), 13, 16-D, 17x2, 18, 20, 23, 24, 26x3, 26-D, 27, 27-S, 28x2, 29x2, 29-D, 30-D, 31, 34, 35x6, 35-D, 36x3, 36-D, 37x7, 37-S, 38, 39, 39-D. FOR THE REMAINING 22 coins, as: 40x4, 40-Dx3, 40-S, 41x3, 41-Sx2, 42x4, 42-D, 53, 53-D, 55, 56-D. With the quantity & big spread of early years 09-35, I can only assume that someone has DUMPED deceased grampa's coin collection. I will provide the remaining count by years when I finish processing this box. Who knows, maybe a 09-s-vdb, a 24-d, 31-s, may be lurking in the unturned coins. Makes me wonder what else was dumped into that coin machine at some bank? Indians, Barbers, buffs, standing liberties, silver of all sorts. All I can do is continue looking through the stuff I had uncovered so far. This box has turned out to be more exciting than finding my average two Rosie's per dime box. Your comments?
