Me an my daughter pulled a plug from an area that we had a good signal in. When the plug was removed my daughter grabbed what I thought was a rock and began checking it out. The signal turned out to be the bottom of a light bulb. Then my daughter, who is seven, said that she had an arrowhead. I took the rock from her to show her why it wasn't an arrowhead and planned on giving her a local history lesson about there not being Indians in our area. To my suprise I found that the rock she had was flint and it had been knapped. I am no native american artifact expert but I have found a few arrowheads in other areas and I used to knap flints for muzzleloaders so I am pretty sure she did indeed find an arrowhead. We were detecting in an old farm field so the arrowhead must have been plowed up and mixed with surface junk. I need to listen to her more often, last time we found a cache of pennies in a rusted old tin that I was sure was junk but she insisted it was a treasure chest and sure enough upon closer inspection it was a treasure chest! We found a wheatie today too but I was much happier about the arrowhead.

Beautiful workmanship on it! Not too sharp, so it could be the end couple of inches of a long lance point or dart point, I think. But I am out west, so the eastern experts may be able to tell you. I think it is fantastic. Now do you think you had indians in your neighborhood???

Sorry, I meant not to pointy instead of sharp.

Hello High Plains Digger and thanks for the reply. I believe it now! Every time I pass any type of excavation I am going to be paying more attention and looking for artifacts

Since you know knapping, tell us about the bottom. Is it worked, or does it appear to be broken from the rest of the point? May be a really nice tool of some sort if it isn't broken.

It looks like the bottom is broke off. After I realized it was a point of some sort I started looking at the bottom of it for notches or flute like a clovis point. I was hoping for a clovis point but no matter how hard I looked I couldn't put that flute on it.

Perhaps the flute was closer to the base...could be! I know those Clovis and Folsom guys got around. Still, exceptional knapping, isn't it? A work of art from a skilled craftsman, whatever it is.

Nice Finds! It looks to me like the top of a knife! I find a lot in my area , some of them are straight and some have an angled base!

 for the little girl!

I agree with Troyounce, looks like you have part of a knife there. Your daughter has a sharp eye!
