Hi all, here is my haul from the 2 1/2 day marathon of detecting with Vanoldshool. I am exhausted to say the least. Ended up with 1 1960 washington, 1 1951 rosie and 18 wheaties. Also picked up the destroyed sterling ring, must have got chopped up by a lawnmower. :( I also dug a lot of clad and a couple of toy cars. All in all it was a great weekend and puts my silver total up to 5 for the year. I only had 5 all year last year, so I'm well on my way to a record year in that department. My highest total for any year is seven. I'm also up to 28 wheaties now and now only 5 away from breaking that record. Can't wait to get out again and find some more. Good luck out there and thanks for looking!

with silver ending in 1964 and wheat cents ending in 1958 (6 years earlier) anywhere you find a fair bit of wheat cents - thers a good chance there is (or was) some silver dimes , quaters and maybe a halve or two lurking about . --if your finding mid 30's and earlier wheats who knows might even find a silver dollar --last minted in 1935 .

Actually silver dollars were in circulation through 1964, at least in my part of the states. Then they disappeared into private collections in less the a month. With that said I have never found one and have been doing this since 1962.

Man, I have got to get a detector that does better. Awesome finds.

Congrats, nice digs. :icon_thumright:

Technique is also a factor, Tom went over the same area I went and got two wheats that I missed, I was swinging too fast and not low enough, I usually end up getting sloppy after an hour or so and need to refocus, As soon as I did I found another Wheat.

good pile of keepers!! MR TUFF

ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

just adding: 1964 Kennedy half dollar is 90% silver, and 1965-1970 Kennedy half dollars are 40% silver; after that, no silver in Kennedy half dollars at all. Andi

I get sloppy after an hour or so as well. I have found myself not getting any hits and realize my coil is 5 inches off the ground and I have to consciously drop it back down. Because of my constrained time frame for searching, I also swing too fast for my processor to do a good job and I again make the effort to slow down until I can range a target repeatedly.

psst post 1970 s mint marks can have 40% silver in em --if they were taken out of special mint sets
