when do you throw in the towel?

I am mainly a coin shooter who enjoys pulling relics. With the jet stream dipping, we went from the high 40's on Saturday to the mid 20's a day later. If I hunt again in Jan, it will more than likely be in the woods or an out of the way park. It will be too sloppy to do a permission house, and the fields will be extremely muddy if the temps rise after the ground is covered with a few inches of snow. The forecast has more snow on the way and the temps might hit 40 this Friday and Saturday. If it's too sloppy, I will find something else to do.

I dig till I can't get the digging tool in the ground, and depending on how bad detector withdrawal is, I sometimes detect the plowed piles of snow...but be mindful of where the plows are at all times.

I do not go quietly into winter hibernation....:sly:

I'm in ny and my deus is in my room polished and tucked away dreaming of the spring hunts my bounty hunter is putting on his parka for the days I can't take it and detect a sledding hill or snowmobile trail

You throw in the towel when it is too dirty with mud... dirt... sweat and grime... to wipe your face any longer.
And the only place you throw the towel in at that point...

Is the washer.

Pfffft. get back outside soldier !

:) just kidding... what is a towel anyway ?

Wait, you have a towel? Don't be just throwing that thing around! You just hang in there and keep hunting under those leaves until the ground is too frozen to get the tip of your shovel into it! :skullflag:

I stop when it gets too cold to be fun, or when the ground is frozen, or when the ground is a muddy mess. Most of my hunts are in yards, so if conditions are bad I don't hunt so I don't destroy someones lawn.

If it's decent out, I've gone out detecting with my tector, pin pointer, my digging tool, and a hammer to pound it into the ground. I'm in central N.Y. and I hate to quit . Did make it out last weekend when it was in the high 50s.

For y'all in NY the frost is way too low to interest me. I once lived in Northern Ill and there was frost 3'+. Here it might be 1 inch. In December. But listen, don't come here. No one comes here anymore...It's too crowded.

You can continue all year long...just migrate to Florida...

I went to a Fair Grounds a few days ago, some of the ground was frozen but mostly thawed. I only found clad but when I got home everything was covered in mud. Guess if I get to hunt much it will be in the woods.

There have been days when my wife has had to bring a crow bar out & pry my frozen boots from the ground when I'm in the farm fields. "Never give up".

I tried that. The ones that go topless or nude are NOT the ones you want to see!
