Where are the White's Dual Field reports.

I haven't seen any reports from the White's Dual Field guys in a long time. They can't be all changing over to Sand Sharks. I have been meaning to get one for playing with even though I hunt fresh water and have a great Sand Shark and Tiger too. The only down side of the White's water detectors is that the coils float to much so you have to hold them down while in the waves.

I've not even been seeing them on the local beaches very often this year. Use to be a couple of regulars that used them, still see one of these guys now and then, but for the most part it's pretty much a lot of new faces with Excals, CTX's, a few Sovs, Sand Sharks, and an entire host of dry sand machines. :dontknow:

Sandman: I believe that it is a matter of where you hunt.
With the exception of a plethora of entry level detectors mostly purchased from Radio Shack by beginners ,The White’s Surf PI Dual Field metal detector seems to rule on the Island where I hunt.
This is probably the result of the influence of a well known detectorist, who is a living legend on island, and a White’s distributer.
I have read reviews by visitors using other PI detectors here but have never seen another PI detector used here.
I had a chance to swish the larger 12” coil of the dual field in the calm water of a lagoon for a few minutes and was surprised on how easy it was to handle hip mounted. I did not have any difficulty holding the coil down and consider the sight buoyancy an upside when hunting over sharp coral as you want the detector to float above rather than be pounded on the reef when hit by a wave.

Oh by the way, you probably see more post(s) by Sand Shark users, as they have more energy left than those using PIs that go deeper. As far as where I hunt, the
only Sand Sharks, I have seen, were caught at night by fisherman.

In the Gulf i kind of liked that big ole coil being somewhat buoyant. I thought in the shallow surf she moved pretty well. Some of the guys got smart and put them in the closet as a back up machine to their Xcals. But in the winter they seem to get a little more use down here. I see an occasional PI on the beaches around me but they are fairly new people using them. Thou i did run into a guy who claimed he had been hunting 30 years and couldnt wait to show me the PLAT/WHITE gold ring he just found. I didnt laugh, but i did tell him it was Tungs.

You get used to the buoyant coil after a while. I only use mine when I can hunt away from shore. It's a good, very deep, machine especially when you have the sanded in condition of eastern Florida.

I don't own an Excal, but I find my dual field to be better in the water than my CTX that has quite a bit more drag in the water. If I am just hunting the wet sand and edge of the surf, I prefer the CTX for its discrimination. However, the dual field is quite a bit lighter and goes about as deep as my CTX, it just doesn't have discrimination and I prefer not to dig 18" deep holes for bobby pins. HH, Beach Papa

Actually I liked the lighter weight of the White's water coils when out of the water and playing with the wet sand. I used to use a sand filled sock taped to the shaft when in the water and you could take it off for the long walk back to the car.

Tip: Watch the salt intake with your food. My kidney is coming back and dialysis isn't fun at all.

Sandman: You need to return/travel to where there is salt water and Mother Nature will help balance your salt level while you have fun: shallow water hunting/wading.
Total immersion is better – diving, swimming, surfing, or just completely dunking you underwater.
While you are having fun doing some or all of the above salt is being depleted out of your system. I have been told by my mentor that this is the result of reverse osmosis.
You can see its effect in cleaning your kidneys , by peeing soon after you get out of the water. Notice that your urine has a darker yellow color and a much stronger odor.

We always took salted nuts, salted sunflower seeds, or salted pumpkin seeds with us which we devoured when we got out of the water to replenish the salt which was depleted from our systems while we had fun.

I still snack on the same type of items without the salt (NO SALT) when I get out of the salt water as I now need to deplete salt in my system to reduce swelling in my feet. I have taken up shallow water hunting and snorkeling to spend as much time in the water as possible.

“If you are not hunting where the water is salty, you are hunting in the wrong place” as this does not occur in fresh water.
