Well I figured if many people are on board about spending halves, why not tell people your stories and where you spent them today right here in this thread? Just keep this thread going for a long time with your reports. Today I went to a few banks to ask for loose halves. I got one 40% out of the lot, yay! I also got a big handful of Eisenhower dollars which I will ALSO spend. LOL, I can't wait to see the reaction to those huge coins. Maybe I will buy a book with them at Barns and Noble later tonight hehe. But so far today I bought a frozen lemonade with 5 half dollars.....that would have been like 5 CENTS in the 40's...damn you federal reserve fractional banking system! So yeah also tell about any other wierd coins you have used to buy things with such as Eisenhower, susan B or whatever else.

I use them for tips. I have waiters/waitresses thank me for them, because they never see them anymore. I also use them mixed with a bill. For example I went to a sub sandwich shop the other day. I gave them a $5 bill, plus 6 halves. The girl asked me what was that...and what was it worth. It was funny.

Thats the perfect opportunity to say "oh yeah those are the old 5 dollar pieces they discontinued, gimme back the other 5 and the bill."

Each month, I pay my mortgage, make the monthly deposit into the joint savings account, and make a depisit into my "bad habit account" in halves. That's $5,500 in halves!

Nice tip, I'll definatly have to try that one. There are alot of hispanic fresh imports at the fast food places around here who barely speak any english so maybe they would fall for it having no chance of ever seeing a half dollar in their life.

Fast food is always a easy one, great reactions,
Small amounts of groceries.
Gas is always fun. Thank god I have a prius so 4 rolls of halves is not too cumbersome.

The reactions are always great...the worst are when you get people calling over the manager to see if they can take them...dumb people, shame on them.

Every day I spend two for my tolls. I also dump them at lunch. Yesterday at McDonald's though I spent 7 and didn't realize until it was too late that they rung me up for $3.25. Oh well. Usually I have to tell whomever that they're fifty cent pieces.

out here in LA LA land those are the ones who were born and grew up here. A product of our public school system.

When my daughter complains about getting tired of school (senior next year & 4.14 GPA) I tell her to repeat after me "would you like fries with that" That is all you need to know to work at the local burger joint (and spanish)

Bad advice. Knowingly taking advantage like that would make the person doing it a liar, cheat and thief.

Well I'm not a fan of Hindu religion so I can't say I am worried about "karma" especially since I was joking to begin with. But if I did believe in karma, then most likely it would be me returning the karma to them who are very likely to be subsidized by MY paycheck in the first place =)

fast food, barber shop, and I dump a few with currency in general shopping.

I hate to say this but I have never spent one yet. When I first started I took a few grand out of the savings and constantly recycle it.

ATM - cash
BANK - halves
BANK - deposit
etc, etc

I am up to almost $100,000 spent on coin.
If I spent the money I would be spending the savings.

I will be picking up a box or two of halves B4 6 tonight at bank A and just a few minutes after 9 AM tomorrow it will be deposited in bank B.

I am not a "green" person but I love to recycle that cash.
