WHere do you stand on saving copper pennies?

I have seen a few posts that talk aout whether that poster keeps 1959 - 1981 copper pennies or not. But, not a thread about it. So I'm asking. Who here keeps the copper memorial Lincoln Pennies? And, is there an outlet yet for selling them for more than $0.01 per? We know the melt down value is over 2 cents, but is there an outlet yet willing ot buy them?

tis against the law to melt pennies as of last year according to a law they past--- for their copper value as I understand it---so I doubt anyone is "taking in copper" pennies for more than face---and if they were doing it since its illegal doubt they would be "saying" much about it in the "open"---Ivan

I only save the early and lower mintage ones.

1959, 1959-D, 1960, 1960-D, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1968-S, 1969, 1969-S, 1970-S, 1971-S, 1972-S, 1973-S, and 1974-S.

Average around 22-25 per $25 box.

I have a box ($25) of pre-82's, but that's it. That's the most money I'm willing to tie up in pennies. As yet, I know of no place to sell them for more than face value. I plan to save mine for awhile. Just see what happens. Also a few old British pennies stuffed in cracks. My li'l box o' copper.

Here is an idea. Put them on a railroad track and let a train flatten them. They are now damaged coins. The mint will buy damaged coins, but only pay what their metal content is.

I have one $50 bag of pre-1982 coppers but I'm not saving more than that. Like fiatboy I'm willing to wait and see what happens after 2009. If they discontinue the penny things could get interesting...
