Joining a club would be much easier and that's what most out of staters probably do when they don't have the time to prospect properly.
It takes alot of time and research and trips to the county to know whats open but if you have the time then go for it. If not join a club and go to their claims.
Most people on vacation just want to find some gold and they have limited time.

I know that no one is going to give up their hot spots, and I would not either, but can anyone tell me where not to even bother looking in AZ for gold? I know that the Holbrook area is a waste of time, but any other areas that are useless?

Hi faribo,

This may not be an answer to your specific question, but I wanted to let you know that there are many places around Rich Hill, Stanton, Congress and Wickenburg, Arizona that we work regularly that are great to prospect and commercially mine.
We mine and sell claims in these areas and have done so for many years and they do not disappoint. If owning your own claim doesn't interest you, there are several prospecting clubs in this area that offer memberships. But if you had a few minutes and wanted to take a look at what we have, you can do so here:

Happy hunting!

Another way to get quick knowledge of an area is the nearest mining supply store. I happened to be 2 hrs North in Armadillo Mining Supply in Grants Pass...just browsing mind you and over heard stuff that made me wanna hang out all day. :lurk:

Well, I am back. I came home with about 5 pounds of stuff to either pan out to finish or stuff I need to sluice yet. I did a little dry panning in CA too. Nothing came out of CA though. But, the more I play with this, the more experience I get. I panned a little bit and saw specks so I can call this a success.

As for land matters, I have never been able to get the site to work for me. It always stops way short of giving me any useful info.

I thank those who gave or tried to give helpful answers.

Did anyone mention not to go to state parks?
