Can't seem to find which pistol this 45 colt ammo went to. Is it a revolver or automatic with a clip? I know they changed gun style turn of century. By the way is there a gun forum on here?

Correct….. .45acp

And that round (in general, not the one you’re holding) has been around since the early 1900s. Was used in the model 1911 and onwards.

To get further into the weeds, it was designed for an auto, but no way to tell if that particular bullet was fired from a revolver with a half or full moon clip (at least I can’t tell). Dad has a 455 webley, and when it was shot (up to about 30 yrs ago) it took 45acp with a clip because of availability and cost of 455 ammo.

I see, many possibilities , it was found at late 1800s site if that makes a difference or not. Right behind what's left of the house

With the cbc (Brazil manufacture) and the condition of the case, I’m going to say it’s 30 yrs old or less. While the location matters I’ve dug early 1800 large cents, wheat Pennie’s and bud light cans all from the same 30’ circle. Yes an old site, but deposition never stops.
