Which post 64 coins should we collect?

Re: Which post '64 coins should we collect?

I will start this off..

1970-d kennedy half dollar (was only available in mint sets)

1996-w roosevelt dime (ditto as above)

2000-d and 2001-d sacagawea dollars in ms-67 grade or higher
( the higher graded ones command a healthy price)

Any kennedy half dated 1964(90% silver)

Any kennedy half dated 1965-1970(40% silver)

Anything graded pr70 or ms70 if i can afford it.
(These are the ones collectors want most)
Also most coins graded DCAM or UCAM.

1995-w silver eagle if i can ever afford one.
(mintage 30,125. The proof lists for more than $3,000.00)

1973-s IKE dollar silver proof
(key date in the series)

1982 roosevelt dime no mint mark
(list about $200 in ms65)

The prices are from the 2006 redbook.
I will post some more later,

Just be extremely cautious as to who grades the coin. There is a lot of JUNK out there on Ebay and elswhere that is NOT third party graded and is actually slabbed by the seller. Often graded as MS-70, the coins don't even come close.

Anybody thinking about real MS-70 stuff should stick with the major graders.

There are graders that try to make you think they are major ones but their coins are garbage. Some Grading Services are Scam Grading Services.

Be cautious,
Bill

Hi found,

You are correct , I have seen some graded by the sellers. You can buy the slabs and everything you need from most coin magazines !!!! BUYERS BEWARE !!

I should have elaborated further.
The grading service coins i have so far :
PCGS,PCI,NGC,ACG,ICG and ANACS.

It seems like PCGS coins command the highest prices in MS70 or PR70.
I dont own any 70's from them as i dont feel like taking out a second mortgage on my house. LOL. I do have many 69's and they are perfect. I imagine 70's are just a touch better.
PCI tends to undergrade most of the coins i have from them.
NGC seems to be fairly consistent in their grading. I like their new First Strike Silver Eagles.
ACG can be picked up somewhat cheaper than the others.
ICG seems pretty consistent. I can afford their 70's.
ANACS I love their new holders. The older style ones were butt ugly.

Catch you Later,

Re: Which post '64 coins should we collect?

Thank you for starting this topic, and thank you to all who responded. I've often wondered myself as to what coins are keys. Everything written so far is fantastic.... just a favor to ask. Could someone elaborate more on key coins that may be found in regular pocket change or bank rolls? That would be fantastic!
