I have a Compadre and a Vaquero, both which i love. Great machines!!! I was looking to add a Tejon, which i look at as a Vaquero on steriods. If that's wrong, straighten me out. But, now Tesoro has added another possibility, the Outlaw!!!

I'm looking for a simple light weight alternative to Minelab's Explorer. Mostly we are hunting coins and jewelry in dirt and dry sand. Not so much into relic hunting, only looking to find the old coins, Coppers, Reales, etc. I realize that the Vaquero is more of a relic machine. But it seems to do fine on jewelry and coins. Which machine in Tesoro's line up would do better? Am I missing something?

I want to get the tejon also. The higher frequency will do better if you have a chance to hunt small gold. I know I would love the alt disc. It also uses the same coils as the vaquero. The outlaw comes with 3 coils though. I would gladly trade my Deleon for one right now!

I would add the golden umax since it has the tone ID you don't need a dual disc, it loves gold rings and jewelry, acman

If you want depth and sensitivity to gold and coins, the Lobo Super Traq has been kickin' it for me here in New York. I started using a couple of Lobo's from our gold prospecting school (Arizona Gold Adventures) as a dirt and dry sand hunter here in New York last year as a goof, and I was pleasantly surprised. Check it out..

The difference between the Vaquero and the Tejon, is the V is so stable and quiet you sometimes check to make sure it's still on. The Tejon is tweeked to the ragged edge of stability, so you really have to adjust the gain and ground balance to keep it quiet, but because of this it's a deeper and more powerfull machine. I also second the mention of the LST for general detecting. Once you get used to that auto ground balance in all-metal mode it's hard to put down.

THX guys, that gives me more to think about.

More input is welcome if anyone would like to add anything.

Since I already have the Tejon for ground and a Tiger Shark for fresh water, I would like a Outlaw just because it is a great deal with the extra coils and not as deep as the Tejon, hence easier to use.

Lobo is part of my permanent quiver (I Love Tesoro) but why get another VLF ? I would get a PI so You have a detector to ignore high Mineral chaos. Me ~ #1 Infinium , #2 Sand Shark. . . Ken~Digs

Oh ~ forgot , Infinium will go Way Deeper than Anything mentioned above . (I wouldnt be without Lobo or Infinium).

Well, you have two "high" frequency, one low gain, one high output, ED 180 Tesoroes.

Time to look at an ED 120, lower frequency one.

The Outlaw would be best, I personally do not like the 8xAA cells tesoroes, as they are a bit away from the "µMAX" spirit.

No need too, to get a Tejon if you keep the Vaq.

HH

Grumpy.

sir, your "V" has been proven to be as good as the Tejon and the Outlaw is no better. bottom line: you can't improve on the Vaquero without spending over 1000 dollars. read the reviews. They will blow your mind.
