This is from Wed. before my Dr.'s appt.,usual find's from the field's,another Wash. Arsenal and a fired round that "kinda doesn't" make sense. It's still has the tip of the .58 but the ring's are on the wrong side if you know what I mean, the impact is on the other side :icon_scratch: Anyway Thank's for looking and best of luck this weekend.

good hunt.....BEE OTCH!

Looks like FRED was in the field...LOL!!!

WTG cool finds, Maybe they got in a hurry and loaded the bullet backwards I think this is possible if it was seated on the powder and no air space ?

Cool finds thats a neat bullet to add to your collection.

Great finds as always Civil Good luck tomorrow!

Some nice lead there Civil.

W :o W--a CW hollow point. I don't see any ramrod marks on the nose offhand. I'm sure it was probably unintentional but similar to some reloads where we reversed a hollow base wadcutter.

That's a strange looking bullet for sure, Civil.

Perhaps it was hit by another bullet from behind...I'm not really sure. :icon_scratch:

Very interesting!

Cut, pieces removed, & bent purposely to be used to cap something? :icon_scratch:
Just a wild guess.

I have a bullet like that as well. I found it in VA in a cliff face that was below a CW fort. Mine seems to have hit almost perfectly backwards. Here are a few pics!

Have fun!!

Actually that's a pretty good theory, but I would think it was loaded in the right direction, but left with a small airspace and it fired, but tumbled from lack of energy and made a short fall with low impact. I have seen some crazy things with quick loading some muzzleloaders on Deer drives.

It is a very interesting find and very cool to see it.

Happy Hunting!

Alan, you found a Mexican War Bullet.  ;D

I have seen several bullets like that on e-bay that said that the bullet hit something backwards
at high impact. The way that they had their bullets packed the powder would have been toward the back of the bullet. So if they would have loaded it backward the powder would have been in front of the bullet.A lot
of the rifles that they had in the civil war was smooth bore and i would say that a lot of the bullets that they
shot just might have been spinning in mid air.But however it is still possible that it was loaded backwards or a double loaded charge.
A very cool looking bullet none the less.Congrats

Just a theory..... Maybe it grazed a limb or something and made it tumble.... maybe it was fired up in the air and when it stopped and came back down it started to tumble. Nice find though. Thanks for sharing
