Whites Gmt and Goldmaster2

I own a Whites Goldmaster2 and a friend has lent me a Whites GMT. I buried a few small nuggets and did some tests to see how much more sensitive the latest GMT is to the old ten year old Goldmaster 2. I tried a few different settings, and found that the older model was finding the nuggets better and was more sensitive. It might only be in my particular local soil type it could be totally different in the gold feilds highly mineralised ground. Has anyone got any tips on using the GMTand how to get the most out of the machine. thanks Neilo

You could have a 'hot' Goldmaster 2 but didn't they change the frequency on the GMT up to 50 kHz or at least higher than your machine which would not cope as well with mineralised ground ?

The Goldmaster runs at 50klhz and the GMT at 48klhz. I used them both today in some mineralised ground, the GMT was a lot quieter,and it was easier to identify target signals, there were a couple of times in very hot ground where the GMT definately excelled. But for about 90 percent of the time the older Goldmaster 2 detected deeper with better sensitivity.seeya Neilo

I too own a GMT but as I have never used a goldmaster I can't comment. The screen percentages for iron is of course iffy. I wondered if you could use the screen similar to White's MXT VDI numbers with regards to non ferrous ID. The technique with the MXT in iron infested sites is to dig a little and sample again. If the MXT's numbers go up it is non ferrous-if down ferrous. Likewise with the GMT's screen- if you dig a little and the iron percentages go down- it would be non ferrous.

Neilo, do this: take the SAT all the way to "10," i.e. fully clockwise. Take the gain to 8, which is the highest actual power setting. At a gain of 9, the power setting is still at "8", but a 2x audio boost is engaged. At a gain of "10," the audio boost becomes 4x. If you san stande the "angry bee" noise, this will help find smaller, deeper targets. Also, sweep the DD coil a bit slower. I regualrly find 1/10th grain nuggets in really bad ground with this set-up. Hope this helps; HH jim
