I have never done it though I have thought about it a couple of times.

It's really simple. Sometimes not even needing a detector. A few of the local car wash owners let me take it home and I run water over it while I sift it and have found quite a few nice keepers. I never come out empty handed

I've picked up qiute a few coins at these places around the vacuum.

I've got 4 rings, several earrings, too many coins to count, and necklaces, watch and a knife

How do you get to the stuff in the vacuum box?

I got in the habit of checking the self car washes. I've found many quarters stacked on top of the vacuums and at the coin boxes. Soon learned to check the grate drains for items. Somebody drove off and left five of a six pack of Coors beer which I had to restrain myself from finishing on the spot.:occasion14:

Back in 73 I did that,same stuff as you....plus a pot plant 12" tall.:laughing7:

GOD Bless

They usually empty them out once a week usually more during the summertime and they will usually dump it out along the back side where there is grass along the curb.

Long time back, when i hunted the city...i got me a nice ....Hypo Needle....so i keep out of the trash .

Yea I usually use my old Kevlar SWAT gloves when I detect. Don't want any transmittable diseases or get cut by glass

I remember back when I was a little kid, I would go to the car wash with my dad and open up the metal door on the vacuums and sift through the dirt to remove all the loose change that had been sucked up. It seems like back then, less of the vacuums had a lock on their doors.

Same here! The piles are a real gold mine. Don't forget to check the walls on both sides! People hang their floormats on the wall. Busy carwash walls are constantly being restocked. If the grates drain out into the dirt, take a small shovel and scrape off a few inches to sift (quicker than swinging). Surprised more of us haven't tried this.:icon_scratch::icon_scratch:

Excellent tactic. I will try it one of these days.
