This is a long shot but maybe someone will recognize this mans picture. It looks like the old photographs that are brown and yellowing. Could this be a political button? Its exactly 1 inch diameter. I found it in a dump pile of personal belongings back in the 80's. What is it and who is it?

Well, that one is Churchill in 1900 when he was in Boston on a tour lecturing about the Boer War. I think the button man is from maybe a decade later when that form of detachable collar was fashionable or maybe a bit later if it was attached.

I'm pretty sure that the individual is NOT Winston Churchill.

For what it's worth I remember my grandmother telling me about how mourners of some of the more affluent folks in town would wear portraits of their deceased loved one pinned to their clothing. I'm not sure if this would be along those lines or not but it may be worth considering.

Very interesting and unique find!

Thanks for all the thoughts. I always thought it was family members that dumped the belongings of the deceased but I also thought it might be a political button. It was a long time ago and I dont remember what I found with it.

The back looks just like yours Mojjax.
