Who Killed the World: A Journey into the Wasteland

Wasteland Weekend—the world’s largest post-apocalyptic festival—is an extraordinary event where the Mad Max films come to life in the Mojave desert. This 26 minute documentary explores how people find joy, beauty, and community at the end of the world right before the pandemic. Wandering among 5000 participants working to stay “on theme” in a vast temporary world built on the imagined wreckage of modernity, we shot on small GoPro cameras that were ideal for the harsh desert conditions. We hope the results will fascinate the Mad Max faithful as well as students and scholars of American Studies, fan studies, and film studies. OFFICIAL SELECTION: Gbiennale Underground Film Fest, Melbourne, Australia 2021.
