Looks like a Book Lock or book seal. :icon_scratch: I found a couple this year and they look similar. Hogge

Looks like Civil war era by that eagle. But who am I to tell you :D

It looks as if the "eagle & shield" drop (keyhole cover) is stamped "M W & Co.," which is the mark of Mallory, Wheeler & Company, c. 1865-1910, at one time the largest lock manufacturer in the world.

I'm not sure about the other "eagle" drop, but it could be from either the Eagle Lock Co. (c. 1854-1976) or the United States Lock Co. (c. 1860-1880), as both used eagle marks on some of their locks.

Hard to say, but brass drops like these were typically used on wrought iron lever padlocks (sometimes called "smokehouse locks" or "smokies") in the mid to late 1800's.
