Americus was one of the biggest hunters I’ve ever seen. It was almost every day he was posting new finds. I figured he had 1000s and probably did. I asked him way back when I first started hunting myself for some of his and he sent me these artifacts. We traded #s and texted each others find’s for years all the way to the day he passed away from stomach cancer. I knew he was gone when the day came he didn’t respond back. He was the king of finds in my book.
God rest your soul Americus you are truly missed.

I never knew him but was he from Americus, Georgia? The reason I'm asking is some of that material looks like it was from that area.

That was Jay Cliett, retired Doctor of Mathematics at Georgia Southwestern University in Americus, Ga. Fine fellow and about as pleasant as they come. He is indeed sorely missed.

I always enjoyed his posts. Sometimes I wonder what happened to his collection.

I kind of remember seeing his posts. I was offline a few years there and a lot has changed.

I’m sure some do remember him. He never had a mean thing to say about anyone. Always kind

He had a huge collection. I’m sure his friends probably had a choice of what they wanted. The friends that lived near him. The rest who knows. I know what will happen to mine if I pass away cause nobody cares about them but me.

I will send you my address old friend!

I will have to start selling mine off, no family interested, do have friend in Missouri where most were found who has expressed interest in buying some of my finer pieces.

Those situations can be sad. I have a very large toy collection. A lot of hot wheels that have “wrong” wheels on them. No one will have any idea. We are talking storage unit full of toys, sports cards etc. If I sell them, it’s just money.

I feel your pain on that. I’m still collecting so far but I figure when I retire I will sell all the field grade and keep the best. Then later if I need cash I might sell the better ones. But we will see how it goes. It’s something we all have to think about as we get older.

Unfortunately we don't always know when we are on deaths door. Wife once said if I died she would just throw them away, to quote her "I don't know what any of them are". I told her she would be throwing 10's of thousands of dollars away. Just one 3 piece set was apprised by 2 commerical company buyers at $7500, most likely more if sold at auction.

LOL, actually thinking about it and seeing some of what is being sold on EBay in some of the indian artifact auctions, would get much more there.

Unfortunately I’ve heard the same response from my wife and kid. I’m thinking on pricing each individual with a sticky dot on the underside while in frames so if that happens and I’m gone they can have a ballpark value as to what to ask. My kid could do eBay I’m sure.
