I found an area in my neighboring town where around 5 1730's cellar holes were right next to each other in the 1880's, all from the town's first settlers. The place was completely woods until the early 2000's when developers bought the land and made 5 streets with around 50 houses. Now nothing is left of that settlement but the new development. God, I wish I could have metal detected there!

We have all stories like you. Good hunting and good luck.

Yeah, kind of makes you sick to your stomach all the items that "could have been" found!

The settlement (the first settlement with five houses on top in the 1730's) was on top of a three hundred foot hill (the whole hill was developed in early 2000s). The is still a small undeveloped section at the very base of the hill behind a sports field with small nature trails, I tried for thirty minutes once and only found shotgun shells. Maybe if I try closer to the rivers and walls I will find stuff. I am going to try to go today again. The settlement expanded from the hill in the 1740's, and there were other farms all around the hill also in the 1730's. Who knows, maybe not all was lost to development.
