I posted this in Artifacts because I figured this would make for a smaller and more pointed (pun intended) discussion--since a lot of this forum's names relate to artifacts.

So please moderator do not move it.

My name is Stryker-one for three reasons.

1. I work on aircraft (my 3rd career)--mostly big (skycranes) turbine powered helicopters that we use for forrest fire fighting and I live in an Airpark that has for it's eastern boundary a road named Stryker.

2. I overhaul piston engine ignition magnetos (as a sideline) in my hanger under the business name of Stryker Industries L.L.C. (I also have a website www.stryker-industries-llc.com) not advertising!

3. If I had another son I would have named him Stryker (the one I have is named Stetson) for some reason I like the name Stryker. I also will name my next dog "Jar". So perhaps I am a little different when it comes to naming things but it works for me. :D

These are the reasons I chose Stryker-one as my handle.

I mean some names will be obvious to us. If you all will respond it will make us a little closer--not touchy feely, just kinda in the know.

I use mine because I hail from a family that is chock full of Confederate veterans.
One of my Paternal Gr. grandfathers rode under the command of W. Quantrell in Missouri and Kansas, Matrilinialy, except for the "Kitsai" side, there are soldiers from Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, and N. Carolina in her lineage.
Add that history to the fact that I am a lil rebellious when it comes to too much government regulation and such, and the fact that I'll speak my mind, even if it leads to "knuckle junction"....or is not the "correct" opinions as prescribed by the "institution" or media.

LOL never heard it put like that, Good stuff

Mine is from high school. My English teacher shook my hand as I entered class. As I shook his hand he said to me whoa Vicegrip take it easy on my hand. He called me Vicegrip the rest of the semester. Then a few years later I got the internet and they asked for a username and Vicegrip came to mind. I'm also a carpenter. :violent1:

Mine has to do with going to detector meetings. I detect for fur trade & copper culture relics which all items have a patina build up from over time. When walking into a meeting they would say here comes the patina boy. Because everything I find seems to always have ground patination on it's surface. I grew up & dropped the boy part of it & now it's just plain ole....Patina

I love finding things. I collect points, rocks, driftwood you name it. So I wannabeafinder.

I was introduced to the term 'Shemanese' from an Allen W. Eckert book--The Dark and Bloody River. The term describes the long knives. The term the Shawnee gave the white man. I love Ohio area history in the 1700's. Boone, Kenton, Brady, Wetzel. If you southern Ohio boys have never read Eckert. Do it. You'll learn alot of history to go along with your artifacts.

Eckert was the head writer on Mutual of Omaha's 'Wild Kingdom,' in the 60's-70's. He's a writer of great books on Ohio area history, birds, rocks. He lived in Bellefontaine for a long time. Check him out. He has a website.

The first time that I actually hunted in a field for artifacts I found bettween 10 to 15 Pinellas points so there you go.

My name is Rege and I`m from PA. Knowing where a poster is from sometimes helps one to understand their views on the topics.

You mention Simon Kenton. I have read The Frontiersman and it's a great book. There is one part in there were they talk about Kenton and his party staying in a large rockshelter in northern Kentucky along the Ohio River. I have been inside that rockshelter before and there are names and dates carved into some of the rocks that go back to the late 1700's. Unfortunately, the owner won't let anyone dig in it.

Ar·chae·on n.,
Any of various single-celled prokaryotes genetically distinct from bacteria, often thriving in extreme environmental conditions.

Members of the Archaea comprise one of the three principal domains of living organisms in the universal phylogenetic tree of life. The other two principal domains are the Bacteria and the Eukarya. The phylogenetic tree is a theoretical representation of all living things, constructed on the basis of comparative ribosomal RNA sequencing and reflecting evolutionary relationships rather than structural similarities.

Many scientists hypothesize that the Archaea are the closest modern relatives of Earth's first living cells. Called "universal ancestors," these are the cells from which all other life is believed to have evolved. This hypothesis is based on two types of evidence. Genetic analyses indicate that the Archaea domain branches off of the phylogenetic tree at a point that is closest to the tree's root. Furthermore, it has been observed that many of the Archaea prefer to live in extremes of temperature, salt concentration, and pH—environmental conditions thought to be similar to those found on Earth over 3.5 billion years ago, when life first originated.

Back in about '97 - '98, when I first got access to the net, first thing I did was join a fishing forum. It was all new back then and I felt a little silly using a made up screen name so I just used my first name and last initial. Since then, I've joined dozens of forums covering 7 or 8 topics and have kept to the same screen name. So if you're ever surfin another forum and see a mikez, it'll probably be me. 8)
