All Treasure Hunting
I am at the point where I will soon be buying a "top of the line" consumer metal detector. I have been looking at both the Whites Spectra v3i and the Minelab E-trac. I have spent hours reading forums and reviews. Bottom line is that both are great machines. I have personally decided on the Whites V3i because I feel that it is a machine I can grow into, but the prospect of a "new" Minelab machine and all the good reviews about the company had me hold off of buying until today. I waited about a month before solidifying my purchase decision until "today" to see what Minelab had to offer. Bottom line for me is this: Minelab's marketing scheme has me fed up and it is an utter disgrace. The information released and the "reviews" were minimal... I am also taking a mental note of all the posts that are being deleted by the mods.... something isn't right here... people are upset. I now know that from what I have researched that I will stick with the company that prefers you speak with someone before you buy their product, instead of trying to spin you some crazy marketing scheme. I am going with the Whites and I hope at least a few people see this before you remove my post as well...

This was posted on another forum site and was quickly deleted. To say the least I am upset, but on the positive it makes me feel better about choosing the Whites over the new Minelab.

The most ironic thing about this whole situation is that one of my deciding factors was based on this comment:

"I've owned both and did a head to head and here is my opinion short and sweet.

Out of the box the E-Trac has the better depth and a quicker learning curve.
The V3 has the potential to be the deeper detector once you learn it."

I guess a free $2500+ demo will sway anyones opinion...

Many of the forums are so bent they have become circular but I doubt if this forums moderators will worry about what you have written because you have not abused anyone or used bad language. I agree with the comment that has guided your choice of detector and as you seem to be prepared to put the work in I think you should be very successful with it. All I would say against the detector is that I didn't like the D2 coil and the SEF's seem to work better over here. Could be the same in your area.

Posts Deleted ? were they in the wrong Forum ? claming your buying a whites in
a minelab forum to cause argument ? attacks on Members ? :dontknow:

I Don't think posts get deleted for choosing your weapon to use in the field.

I Don't care what you buy & use, but if you come to my area and strike a spot with
allot of gold & silver, I Better be invited 8-)

is that free $2500 + a demo ?
send it my way :laughing7:

I can say for sure the V3i is a great detector capable of making deep finds, but I can tell you for sure there is a big learning curve on that detector. It has so many things you can adjust and some adjustments will effect other settings of course thats what makes it a great detector, but alot of people will not take the time or effort to learn what each adjustment does and how it effects other settings. The forum from the manufacture that makes that detector there are alot of great programs from people that use the V3i and you should check out magic's setup, I've detected with him a lot of times and can tell you he knows the V3i inside and out. You might have to change the setup a little to tailor to your ground though, I feel that my MXT with the D2 coil will find targets just as deep but I don't have alot of features like the frequency offset to adjust for EMI and a few others that would be nice. Like I said its a great detector but going to take some time to master so don't buy it if your not willing to put some time in learning it. Good luck and HH

Hi kimikiri,
Learning a high end detector takes reading the instructions, time, practice, searching forum's looking for hints about your machine and doing these things over and over and over and even then there is likely to be some little setting or tweak that will show up years later that will just set your detecting on fire all over again.

I've owned a few brands of detectors but the White's products as well as the White's support have kept me with White's. I liked the 6000D coinmaster so much so that even though it was stolen and I had purchaed the XLT I bought another 6000D off of ebay Just to have it as a backup. An old machine with all sorts of known tweaks and when setup properly I KNEW what was in the ground before I dug it. A few years back I added the White's GMT to my collection and sold the Fisher Gold Bug I had. I've now found gold with the GMT and so I look forward to going out in city or country with my White's detectors.

White's support is simply Supperb. Other brands have been found to make good machines that find lots of targets and have good service but the company or products from White's have never let me down as long as I do my part!.....63bkpkr
