Do a web search for "hot rocks".

See if you can cut a slice off with a wet tile trim saw if it's not to hard to cut? Like to see what a cross section looks like? That green makes me think it's a piece of native copper.

Green? Hmm...guess I really AM colorblind! :tongue3:

Tamrock, is that the lighter spots you're referring to??

looks more rocky crystalline to me. Not so much metallic. And a kind of milky light green crystal. We need a geologist or much more experienced rock hound then I am to help.

That is decomposed granite,It probably has some iron content that is why it is making the detector go off.

take a little piece(especially the green part) wet your finger or use your tongue, stick the wet finger or the tongue on the sample. If it sort of sticks or adheres, it's copper. I sort of think there is iron oxide there, but try the test for copper first...

Yes and I guess I should have said more of a turquoise color. I'm not sure what that is only the bluish green color could be a presents of copper and the member being from Arizona make me think this rock may have copper oxides within it and if it were sliced it may even be possible to see tiny little elements of native copper under magnification. Photos of Natural Copper Ore, Copper minerals, Crystal ores, rich copper - gold specimens
