The plan was to stay home on the couch and study for work related exams. My friend calls me up and asks if I wanted to hit this new field. Said there was some military camps there in the 1800's. I suit up and head out. There were 4 of us hitting the ground. That when one of the guys, a retired cop pulls this huge thing out of the ground. He walks its over and its an ammo can wrapped in a plastic bag. We could tell there was something in it. He opens it up and there's a zip lock bags. One contain ammo, the other a Beretta FS92. We called it in and the police took it away.

Interesting find! Good luck on your studies. :icon_thumleft:

We have quite a few counties here in Illinois that have declared themselves "sanctuary counties" in order to defend the 2nd amendment. That is, the sheriffs and officials will not obey any Federal orders to round up guns from law abiding owners. The past few years, its getting crazy with legislators virtue signalling to TAKE AWAY GUNS from law abiding owners. Absolutely loony. Anyway, you can read more about it here: Gun Rights Watch - Illinois Gun Owner Sanctuary Counties Just Keep Coming

interesting, I didn't know that was a thing. Thanks for taking the time to explain that.

Swat had a big bust near here a few years like 10 !! every body knew the dude did drugs , had a couple nice cars , fishing stuff and of coarse guns,
well drugs went to the evidence locker , cars and fishing sold a sheriff auction , Found what guns ? , we didn't find any guns !! Swat team broke up with new sheriff

It may have belonged to the land owner, who is/was a Doomsday Prepper. They bury a lot of things like that.

The land was owned by the town and nothing has been there for years. It was previously a farm in the 1800's and we found the foundation to the house that the 1878 map says was there. On Long Island, if you have the stomach to go through the pistol license process and ultimately get approved, you would most likely not discard or hide the weapon in this manner. Doing this is criminal on LI.

Here in southern Va almost Everybody has a gun and most have many guns. we don't need a license here to own guns as it's our 2nd amendment right to bare arms . it keeps the crime in check by creating a level playing field . I would guess the gun you found was stolen and buried there for safe keeping. I wouldn't want too keep a possible crime related weapon if I lived in a place like long island where hand guns are controlled by the state.

I dearly hope things stay like that my friend as Virginia has taken a left on recent years when it comes to politics and that drives what I'm sure it's a well meaning effort, to take away guns and reduce gun ownership rights. If they only were as hard on criminal caught committing crimes with guns. In Chicago, they're back on the street in no time

Without getting into 2nd A topic (because I don’t care) [emoji1063] I gotta think that the retired cop who found it, wouldn’t have called it in if he thought there wasn’t a pretty compelling reason to do so.

Congratulations to him for a very interesting find and story to tell.

There appears to be two guns in this photograph. The top zip-loc has a brown Walther box with several boxes of ammunition for that.
