NC Digger, good article but I was refering about the reverse proof and W mint mark and pcgs or 70 rather than to the first strike lavel.

I don't see it ever becoming "rare" . A mintage of 300,000 for a circulating coin would be low, but not for a proof coin made for collectors which will have pretty close to a 100% survival rate. Looking at slabbed coins for sale, a grade of 70 doesn't seem too uncommon.

The only way something can become rare is for most of the others to disappear.

Either the coin in question is MS, or Proof, as this coin in the picture is a proof, which by its PR70. There is no one sided proof coins in slabs.

The only way this coin in question could become rare is if it has a low population of pr70. Otherwise its best to buy from the us mint.

I ran out and bought the W Roosevelt dime years ago, convinced it was going to be one that people would look for to complete their sets later on down the road. Umm...Probably not worth more than I paid. 96 W, The only dime minted at West point at that time(and maybe still only dime minted at W). Maybe my son will see a day that it breaks even or goes over more than I paid. Some of this stuff is a gamble.

Just looked on Ebay, I can buy them graded, cheaper than what I paid in 96.I paid $18 each(I think, can't remember exact price). The coin articles were talking about how it was going to be worth money in the future and were really pushing how rare and unique it was at that time. It worked!! I bought a few!!
