Winter festival

This was suppose to be an event to raise money for flood relief. This community was devastated by floods this Summer. 5200 homes under water and 25000 people effected. They didn't advertise this event very well so it didn't draw many people. Here is a few pictures from this event.The group were playing old time music and it was kind of neat to hear them.The Horses and trolley were there to give kids a ride. The Horses sure seemed patient to me as they waited for riders to load.

Nice pictures, that's a pretty funky instrument in the 3rd picture.

That's always seems to be the problem with fund raisers lack of advertising!

Thanks Chris! The instrument is called a Dulcimer (not sure on the spelling). The women playing that told me she use to be a drummer and got to try this one and now that's all she plays.

Hey Don its been a while,the flood that hit us knocked us for a loop. I sold the old flooded home for Penny's on the dollar,and was glad to get it sold. To much for this ol boy to over come.We have got a different house and are doing great now. I got a hold of some of the Duck hunters that use to come around. They had been trying to find me. Hard to find some one if all they have is a cell. Our old land phone was lost in the flood along with a bunch of stuff.My Model 12 Winchester 12 GA was under water for about a week,and is in pretty bad shape.Ive got it soaking in oil now. I'm going to have it re blued,etc.I finally finished that Pheasant painting. Been working on making prints on a bunch of older paintings. Ive got three at the printers now and today OK ed the proofs on those. Got about 4 or 5 more to do yet.Cool Avatar you have with the Snow Goose.

Van, I am so sorry for the flood and your losses. I really hope you didn't lose much that was irreplaceable? The event sounds like a great time. You couldn't have kept me away from those horses.

Thank you CG,it was a fun event,and I agree with you on the horses. As for the flood,I lived a mile from the river and had never ever dreamed it could ever effect me,but it sure did, It was 2 feet deep in the living area. As for losses we loss the normal stuff that everyone else did,but unfortunately we did lose some things that cant be replaced. It could have hurt us worse. There were others a lot worse off then us.Some people had there houses totally destroyed. I talked to one guy who didn't own a garage before the flood,but now has one in his back yard.When the water came in to our yard it came in fast and we just got out in the nick of time.Were in a much better situation now and are doing real well Lots of memories at the old place,we lived there 48 years,but memories don't get left behind,they travel with you. In this picture our house is the one with the white trellis on the end of the porch, I don't know who took this picture It is been floating around in an email, but it is our house.

Wow, Van, That would be heartbreaking to have something like that happen, especially after being there so long. Those
are great pics. I'm with CG, i like the horses, too. I can see they have some pretty hefty shoes on to be used a lot on concrete or similar surfaces. It's a neat looking cart, too. It would be fun riding in that.

Thanks Ray,and the Horses were really neat,lots of people riding in the trolley they pulled. The flood was a hard thing to go through,but its all behind us now. The sad part is that there are thousands in the flooded area that have not recovered at all and probably never will.Some houses were completely under water. The hightest this river had ever got was 20 feet and this time it got to 31 feet.

I had never seen one before Wes,but had heard of them so I ask the lady playing it if that was what it was.The one you showed in your post is a lot different.

Ed was keeping track of what was going on, really sorry for the lose. There is someone on TNet that can take care of that Mdl. 12 for you, send me a PM and I'll hook you up with him, seems like a pretty good guy even if he is a duck hunter.
