Dantheman and I are still swinging the coils here it here in Michigan . Get this - Dec. 24th - we have 12" of snow, Dec. 27th - we're out swinging the coils!! A warm spell and heavy wind got rid of the snow. Plus, the extra moisture made digging like scooping ice cream!

So we got a couple quick hunts in - A heart-stopping find for me: Large Silver! 1918 walking half! Then I dig what I thought was a real gun - given how heavy the thing is - but heck, it's a cap gun :tard: - who the heck is "Gene Autry"???? And finally, I dug an eagle button at the same place that dantheman dug a civil war era spur a couple months back. Can anyone tell me about that button? It looks different than other eagles I've dug - the wings are shorter and the talons are much thicker???? Plus - there is no maker mark that I can see. Oh yeah, and a dateless Buffalo - do these things ever have dates?? ;D

Well, hope all is well with everyone. Happy new year!

Ian

Stellar finds, Ian! I didn't see any commentary in the topic about the button, but it looks 1810 - 1850 to my unlettered eye.

Did you get out during that brief warm spell? Must have, or you'd have needed an ice spud to get 3" down.

It does look like a standard eagle button used by a large amount of the Union Army during the Civil War. The time frame is right for the previous post for it being 1810 - 1850. That given, it could be pre-war, but either way, a great find. Get back out there and find some more. You could be in a great area with many more artifacts to be had!
