The last few hunts in park lawns have been very depressing. . . LOTS of digging,
no silver, only one or two '50's wheats and TONS of corroded Memorials.
The horror stories I've heard of about legions of thirsty mosquitoes
that lurk in the woods have weighed heavily on my mind on where I should
plan Sunday's hunt. . . OK, the WOODS it is!
It must have been "oldie" withdrawal because before I knew it, I was
lathered up with Deep Woods Off and heading into the woods.
It felt like the good 'ole days of early spring when I found a CJ Cow
(missing two legs
) shotgun shell brass, sherds of thick bottle glass
and finally, a .50 musket ball, and a 1920-D & 1924 Wheat.
My last find of the day was an "iffy" signal that got stronger the deeper
I dug and after 6 or 7-inches, I saw the green edge of a penny. At first
I thought it may be an early Wheat but it was too "thick". Then I realized
it was a "fatty" Indian Head. . . and it was 1863!. . . my oldest IH ever.
Thanks for looking,
