I have a quarry close to my house. Does anyone think it would be worth the effort and trouble to see if they would let me run some of their dirt/gravel?

Depends on where you are at. If you are in at least glacial area where it may have deposited gold and gravel give it a shot. I would let them know that you will bring back the processed gravel so they don't think you are just trying to get free gravel.
