Would guess it's Middle Eastern, but what do I know?

Occasionally my boss takes a day off, and I get the opportunity to look at coins that individuals bring in to sell.

Today, this one came in. I think it's a token ... probably bronze ... but this guy insists it is a coin.

Before I spend any money, I was hoping someone here might be able to identify it.
