Got back to the farm for a 1.5hr hunt in the snow today. The wind was blowing, there was 2” of snow underneath a layer of freezing rain, but it was better than being at home! The finds were meager to say the least and when my feet started to freeze, I knew it was time to leave. I found a beautiful horseshoe, although it could be an ox shoe, a few more of the aluminum number tags and one more complete Isaac Campbell Loop. I hate to admit it, but the best find of the day has to be the adjustable 375mm spanner wrench! :laughing7:

I’ve also included a pic of all the aluminum number tags that I’ve found since I started hunting here in September 2014.

Thanks for looking,
Dave

thXP2KEZM7.webpNice finds. I assume the numbered tags are old cattle tags? As oxen have split hooves they wear (2) 1/2 shoes on each foot so your shoe is probably a horse or mule shoe.

Looks like that adjustable wrench fell off the tractor's fender this year! Happy New Year Dave. Looking forward to seeing how many more of those hooks you find in 2016 lol!

Thanks for your post 2moshers... I think you're right, likely a mule shoe!
I feel the aluminum tags are most likely tree tags from the 1920's, based on the style of font used.
This has been an ongoing mystery , along with other finds from this site for the past 2 years.

Hey Dave, thanks for your post buddy! :hello:
The wrench was just below the surface under the corn stalks & leaves, so very likely lost this year as it's in 'like new' condition!

Hope you're still able to get out in NePa my friend,
Dave

It is too wide I think to be a mule shoe. Their hooves are narrower and that's a pretty good sized shoe. Probably from a draft horse I am guessing. Great finds...d2

You sure are dedicated to the hobby. I think I'd have given the wrench to the farmer as an act of good will. I am sure he would be very appreciative for the act of good will.

Thank you very much for your help with the shoe I found d2.
Best of luck to you,
Dave

I've de-rusted the spanner wrench and will have it it my truck to return to the farmer the next time I see him. :occasion14:
Thanks for your advice my friend,
Dave
