✅ SOLVED Wrought iron whatsit

I found this at a site that dates back to the late 1740s. The round part on the end is solid iron and it's pretty heavy; at first I thought it was part of a horse bit but the knob on the end is too bulky and heavy. Possibly some sort of hanging counter weight?

Pretty sure it is a bell clapper. Probably from a cow bell.
