I agree with Bruce, looks like a crane or stork.
Not a button, and not military. If it were WW1 military, someone would recognize it in 2 minutes. Where did it come from... the dirt? Looks too new to have been out in the dirt for very long.
We need to know size, and what that stamp on the back says.
