WW1 Helmet

I came across this helmet in some items I inherited from my grandfather. Need some help in identifying. It has a ZD 24 stamped on the underside of the brim. I was not able to identify the emblem on the front. Thanks for your help.

The ZD stamp makes it a US made M1917 helmet first off, as for the emblem give me a few to look and I'll see what I can come up with for you.

I was unable to come up with a match to the painted emblem in my materials. Which doesn't mean anything, here is a link to site that specializes in US Militaria, they should be able to give you an ID on the emblem in short order. They have a section just for helmets, and some of the people on the forum are far more knowledgable than I can ever be. You will have to join the site to post (Free of charge), but it might be the best way to get a definite answer.

That emblem is the 258th Field Artillery. A National Guard unit out of N.Y.

During WW1, this unit was known as the 58th Coast Artillery. They also had a unique patch. A First Army "A" with a maltese cross on the bottom.
