I sold the Olympic pin. I always send a little thank you gift. I put a pair of cuff links in the package. The pin was wrapped in tissue, put in a plastic baggie, and then wrapped with bubble wrap. Both items were stapled to the card stock packing slip.

Sat night when I go online, I have a message from the buyer. He opened a case because the item wasn't as described; I sent him cuff links instead of a pin. Then there is another email that says he closed the case when he found the pin.

I'm like, seriously???? You couldn't email me to tell me I made a mistake? I mean, it's not like I sent him a different pin. It was a totally different item, according to him. So in the end he gave me positive feedback, but now I am feeling nervous. If he was so quick to open a case, what is to say he won't do it again? I even write in the packing slip, if there is a problem, please contact me; I want to make you happy.

Wow, some buyers are way to quick to pull the trigger. As far as blocking him, I don't know. Do whatever you think. :dontknow:

On a items like an Olympic pin, I don't think Id block a buyer that buys something in that niche. I would say if you ship a small item like tha, if you are going to include something extra, be very careful how you package it and maybe include a note about the extra item to avoid confusion. Im sure the extra bonus is sometimes appreciated, but when it causes trouble, I don't think its something Id do. If your item is described well and you ship in a timely manner and package well, a buyer will be happy without a bonus item that they may have no use for or want. Just my opinion.

As a seller the samething has happened to me. eBay screws the seller because the buyer can not contact you without opening a case. For instance I purchased a lot of vintage postcards a few weeks ago. Not a lot of money involved and the seller sent them first class from Pittsburgh with no tracking on a Monday. I didn't have them by Saturdays mail. I wanted to drop a line to the seller just to let her know. When I hit contact buyer and attempted to send a message it opened a case. Buyer was pissed and sent me a nasty gram. I apologized and explained I was just trying to send her message, not open a case. Once she calmed down she offered me a refund which I refused. I told her I wanted to check the mail the next week. I received the envelope on Tuesday and dropped the case. I left her positive feedback. There has to be a better way instead of always putting the seller in the jackpot.

:icon_scratch: Haven't saw that before. That is messed up.

I wouldn't block the buyer, I would send a business card, with my note - and include that little saying across the bottom "We hope you find this shipment to your expectations, We greatly appreciate your business. If you are happy with your purchase / transaction - please tell a friend, if not please tell us. Your satisfaction and when possible repeat business is important to us. Sincerely, (name 😃)"

I think eBay did this because of buyers who contact sellers and then they do the deal "off eBay". Then the seller would simply pull the listing. When done that way, eBay misses out on its fees. But, I agree, there should be some way to message the seller without it automatically opening a case.

I've had buyers contact me. One really nice lady told me that I sent a wrong necklace in the lot. She didn't even want me to mail out the missing one.

I am trying to think how she did it, cuz I have the contact buyer on the sold page. I had an issue with a buyer not paying and I was able to just message them rather than opening a case.

I've messaged sellers through the contact seller option and it hasn't opened a case, I think you must be hitting the wrong button or something

Well, when a buyer clicks to send a message to the seller, it gives a list of reasons. If they click on Item Not As Described, thinking that is just the topic to you, it automatically opens a case with eBay. I had that happen ONCE when I wanted to contact a seller. And the instructions clearly said, to contact the seller, click here. :)
From that point onward, I use the Other category. It does not open a case but just allows me to send a message.

Okay, I always click other if I contact a seller (which isn't that much). I normally have buyers contacting me though and haven't had a problem like that.

I talked to an ebay rep once about getting defects removed. Basically he said they have to hit "other" or a case gets opened. I told him ebay needs to change that or we are both going to be spending a lot more time on telephone. He agreed and said well we are trying to educate our buyers.... I responded, "good luck with that."

:laughing7: A few reps actually make sense and want to do the right thing I think. However, like you said, educating the buyers? Some buyers don't get on eBay for months at a time after they buy something. It would make sense to help the sellers who are on eBay every day.
