X-Mas Boxes O' Nickels -- With Pictures

Did 3 boxes of Nickels today. Pulled large number of keepers from it. Here are the Grand Totals:

Buffalo Nickels -- 1
War Nickels -- 5
Canadian Nickels -- 6
Pre-1960 Nickels -- 350

Needless to say the Pre-1960 Nickels were more than plentiful today. The vast majority of them came from the final box. If anyone is looking for certain dates to complete their books, shoot me a PM and we can work out some sort of trade. Happy Holidays and Happy Hunting!!!

Any good dates in there? 50d? 39d?
That's a lot of oldies in that last box.

No 50-D's but a couple 39-D's.

Those are some excellent boxes of nickels!!

Re: X-Mas Boxes O' Nickels -- With Pictures

Why bother keeping pre 1960 nickels they wont be worth anything in our lifetime.

Re: X-Mas Boxes O' Nickels -- With Pictures

those are some great nickel boxes - with a lot of pre-'60's - congrats

Another reason why I think nickels are fun to search.

Makes me want to go out and do a box of nickels.
Awesome score, hope you can get more from this batch.

I save them for the kids and one day the grand kids. Or to trade with those looking for certain dates.

Nice score on those nickels and great photos too! You are right...
Keep them for the youngsters growing up to start their collections
Way to Go!

when they change the composition of nickels to steel then people's attitudes about the current 75% copper & 25% nickel nickels (including the older pre-'60 dates) will begin to change. :)

Btw, those '39D's are great finds!

Good job on the war nickels. And LOTS of pre 1960 too! :icon_thumleft:

Thanks. I'll do a complete inventory sometime later today and post exactly what was found.

Re: X-Mas Boxes O' Nickels -- With Pictures

I can see people saving a nickel from the 30's or 40's (certainly war nickels and buffs) but I really don't see the point of keeping a 1959 nickel. They're not rare and I don't understand the pre-60's cut off year. Many in the 50's other than 1950-D is not worth saving. Some of them are just really common.

I did recall some rip-off used car-coin salesman type guy package up some 40-50's circulated nickels in sandwhich bags at his shop and try to sell them off for a buck. That guy is a low baller and that didn't surprise me. I just laughed that he tried to sell them that to probably unknowning kids. That's not the way to get customers. Folks. He should be handing those out in his change instead. The original owner of this shop used to do that. Gave out wheats as part of the change. I came back to his shop because of that. I won't anymore because of this low ball guy there now. If anyone in the SF Bay Area want to know what shop this is, PM me and I'll tell you and for you to not go there. It's in Sunnyvale.
