Hi Guys,

OK, I have two XLTs and am happy with the XLT. Since my husband can no longer detect with me (medical reasons); I was thinking about selling one of the XLTs and getting a Minelab...From what I've read/heard, the X-Terra 70 is a good all-around machine. I currently live in AK and plan to search parks, soccer fields, old ski hills and hopefully search for small gold flakes/nuggets.

Do you think the X-Terra would be good for this type hunting?

Now, for the hard part...convincing my husband that I need a new machine...Kellyco has a nice special going on right now...lots of extras and a second coil for $798.00 free shipping. Whatcha all think?

Thanks in advance,
Ang

Can't speak from experience, but I plan on buying an x-terra 70 also. Have been reading alot about them, and from what I see, they appear to be pretty good nugget shooters. Might want to check around, other than Kellyco. That seems to be the price everyone is charging, but even though Kellyco advertises free shipping on the detector, they charge shipping for all the "free" extras. Just my two cents. ;)

with the x70 you can null out common clad say at a ski hill
and concentrate on low conductive signals gold
but platinum reads high on the disc scale :-X
being able to null out common trash items or focusing in on silver or gold is a big plus

Just purchased my X70, love the machine, definitely look around, many reputable minelab dealers offer a second coil at the $698 price. All of the reputable dealers will offer the extended warranty and free shipping. I purchased mine from a company because I liked the freebies offered, which were high quality brand name items. I don't think back issues of treasure magazines and generic treasure pouches are worth much.

Thanks to all for the great advice! I'll do some more research on suppliers and hopefully find the best deal. I like the idea of the second coil and the carry bag. If any of you know of a good dealer with a great deal; I'm open.

Good news! Hubby gave me the thumbs up this morning and my research has really spun up!

Thanks again!

I'm also getting closer to purchasing an X-70. From what I read, these are outstanding all around machines and easy to use.

I'm currently looking and figuring out which dealer has the best deal going. I will need the 5x10 accessory coil along with the standard one. I agree that many of us could care less about the cheap accessories that some dealers throw in. I do remember one dealer that threw in Greyghost headphones.

Hi Weasel Loader,
I'm searching for a good deal and you're right, I don't need a lot of the "other stuff" that's sometimes thrown in with most package deals since I already have most of it. A second coil and the carry bag would be important to me, along witih free shipping. I'll let you know if I find a good deal.

p.s. Just curious...where did you come up with name "Weasel Loader"? My husband was a Weapons Loader on USAF fighter jets...

Yes, let me know what you find. I'm scrubbing the all the dealers right now trying to find the best deal out there.

Your right. I picked the name Weasel_Loader since I was a weapons loader. I did first work B-52s but did the majority of my time was on Wild Weasel F-4G and F-16s. I just retired last year and continue with aircraft armament here at Edwards on the bombers with Civil Service. BTW, my avatar was from my incentive flight on a Canadian CT-33. ;)

Ang, the Xterra 70 is an great machine and light and easy to swing as well. It only used four batteries and has good response on targets. I use mine every time I go to an orginized hunt. The Xterra is a nice break from the Explorer II when it gets to be too much to swing.

Hi W-L,
A fellow Weapons Loader, super! My husband was medically retired last Dec but prior to that he was the Wing Weapons Manager at Eielson and ran the load barns at Minot, Kunsan, Seymour Johnson, Loring and Bitburg. He retired a CMSgt with 27 yrs. I'm proud of him and if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be were I am today...he pushed me to study and do what it takes to get promoted. My career field is Supply but I've been working in the wing protocol office for the past few years.

Good luck on finding a dealer...I called Kellyco today and they told me it would cost about $24 to ship everything. They charge handling cost for the free accessories but will work with you. So far, I haven't found another dealer who offers as much as kellyco but I'm still looking.

Hey girls and guys I was in the same boat you were about 2months ago. I shopped around for several weeks for the right dealer. I called several and most were interested in selling a detector and didn't seem to know much about the 70. I finally found one and after about 10 min of talking to him I knew he would be the one that would have my business. www.gerrysdetectors.com. right now, he has taken a group of his customers to England and should be back in a week. His name is Gerry McMullen, his phone number is 208-345-8898. He also takes cust. to Alaska to gold hunt with the detectors. With the units he sells he also offers 3 days of hands on training with the units.... on the minelab brochures that shows nuggets found, several are his... I'm telling you this man knows minelab... Tell him Evan sent you. I've already sent a couple of happy cust. his way already. He can definitely help you out. Evan "GH"

Ang,
The X-Terra -70 is listed on Minelab site as a gold detector. The standard coil (one of three available) is 7.5 KHZ and is good for small gold as well as general detecting. The X-Terra 70 is also much lighter than the Quattro Mp or Explorer SE. In your area it is a good pick.

I totally agree, you need to got one! Well, me too, it's on my list this year.

Ha, you need your husbands approval, I need my wifes approval sort of. Just tell them that it's time to up grade, gotta try a differant machine once in awhile. IT sound like it's going to be a great machine to have.
