XLT question

Ok I almost always hunt in relic mode on my xlt because I have found I just find more good targets, More digging but better results. If It didn't drive me nuts I would hunt in All Metal Mode.
My question. Sometimes I would like to try a deep silver program on HEAVY trash sites. I already hear it! You will miss lots of great items. Well your right but with the 9.5 " standard coil I can't separate targets very well and with a deep silver program I can block everything except say "89-95" VDI.
Problem I laid a mercury dime in the yard to test with this deep silver program I have and I couldn't pick it up? I placed the xlt in relic and rescanned and got a VDI of "79" solid! Whats up with that?? I thought silver would read in the 90's consistantly on VDI?
Any thoughts

If you will check the programs comparisons you might find the relic mode has more gain I suspect.

I also use Relic mode on the XLT but if you want the silver you dare not assume that it will come under any specific number as mineralisation, thickness of the coin, its depth and the way it is lying will all throw the I.D. numbers way off.
If you check out the Whites 6000 DI type analog metered machines gold goes from 0 to 90 and silver from 70 to 100 for common U.S. coins. Then there's none common coins, worn coins, deep coins and foreign coins plus all sizes and shapes of jewellery.
The result is all these wanted items can register all over a meter.

In the picture everything is pure or near pure silver and the meter readings came in from the minus (ferrous) numbers upwards.
All were well worth digging and I'm afraid with the Spectrum or XLT and their stock 9.5 concentric coil that mask so badly you need less discrimination not more. Any rejected item is still in the ground and affecting how the detector is responding.
Heavy trash areas have at least seen plenty of activity over the years so some good finds should be there. You just have to think that the rubbish layer has been protecting the good stuff until someone with the patience to deal with it comes along.
