Hi guys, I've been out a few times with the deus. I've also done the antenna mod but I'm having lots of signals in the saltwater... Anyone of you have some successful saltwater settings to share? I'm thinking of getting another deus coil n body so that I've a second set for my wife use when we're out but the underwater performance is making me rethink my options.

I havent had mine Long enough to get out in salt water so i wouldnt b of help to u on that. What coil u looking at Ive got both so if theres somethin I can help with on that mayb I can

I'm really looking at just adding another deus. Wife will use the earphones while I use the controller with wired ear piece. So, the 9" will suffice.
However, what I'm more keen is to have it work in saltwater. Then I'll get a '2nd' deus.
Else, I'll find a better water hunter.

As much as i really like the deus I dont have any complaints at all but I mean if ur only looking for a water machine wouldnt it make more sense to go for a dedicated machine for that Type of hunting ?

There are MUCH better saltwater machines. Will the XP Deus work in saltwater...yes. Will you have to turn the sensitivity WAAAAY down to get it to work, thus loosing a lot of depth....YES. Get an Excal, CZ-20 or 21 is your best bet. If you don't mind digging everything you can go for a PI machine. People have the same issue with the AT-PRO...yes it will work in saltwater....but you have to turn the sensitivity so far down that you are not getting any depth. In the water...you NEED depth!!

just like yourself.. (please correct me if i am wrong), i did a lot of reading before deciding on the deus.
honestly, i did see all the videos with it in the water and it showed up pretty well... i am just not sure what i am not doing right. (maybe it's just the settings, i don't know)
anyway, i am considering my options of a dedicated machine... that's why i am just checking before shooting Ed an order...

actually, the deus' depth is simply incredible... just this evening, i dug up a faint signal at the edge of the saltwater and went really deep (no one will believe how deep, so i am not going to waste time stating) and guess what came up? foil... small piece of crumpled foil
then, i dug another hole deeper than the length of my garret propointer... and i got myself a staple bullet! *yup, i am still digging it all right now to get use to the sounds of the deus...

what i am trying to say is - if going down in sensitivity is what i need to do to get it to work, i really wouldn't mind losing some depth here - the digging is simply crazy! lol..

anyway, i will give it another few trips before i decide if it is not good enough...

So far in I basically have the same opinión the deus depth so far everywhere Ive taken it has impressed the crap out of me when theres a good target under that coil u know, u also know if its junk great great machine

fishingdevil,
Like everyone says the Deus will work in saltwater but you have to lower the sensitivity which is correct. There is also another method you can do without losing too much depth with just lowering your sensitivity all the way down. Manually ground balance by pumping the coil and what ever it sets at take it down about 10-15 notches or even more until the machine is stable enough to use. This is also a method that can be done on land, manually ground balance and whatever it sets at take it down just a few notches to gain more depth. This is an old method I would use to gain more depth back in the day when metal detectors did not have display screens and vdi #'s. I don't think to many people do it now because even though you get more depth and a good tone it does throw the vdi # off.

Hi Ed, thanks for the info. I'll give it a try again on my next trip... Hope to hit my first ring soon. :)

Ed,has this "spot on"! Lowering the GB will make a big difference. I always did this on my ATP and it helps get greater depth. I would pump the pro, then set it about 5 numbers below what it balanced out at!

I also did it last night & it seemed to improve on getting solid more solid signals. Keep all the tricks & tips coming in.hh

6 trips 2 gold rings and a silver ear stud later... i still have not found the right settings for water. should i be complaining?

anyone has better luck in getting the right settings?

The Dues is the dogs on land and on dry beach and down to the tide line further you are .to the water the less efficient it gets ,if you want to use it with an antenna in fresh water works superb,,salt water it just don't like it .

Correct, It will "work" but salt has so many minerals in it a multifrequency or a PI machine is a much better option.
