XP Icon vs 1st Generation XP Deus

I normally like written reviews and such while researching new detectors. I just can retain more by reading than watching.

But you can hear how a detector reacts by watching videos

I bought just the XP icon remote and paired it to my FMF 9 inch Deus 2 coil.

With it paired to that coil you get 3 mono frequencies available. 4.4 khz 17.6khz and 32khz along with the offset of each frequency plus FMF mode up to 40khz.

I like the display on the icon although it is initially smaller than I thought it would be.

I like the icon option of having square tones.
Most people are comparing the new icon to the Deus 2 who are doing videos.

So here is a video of the new icon compared to the original XP Deus.

I like both but I personally like the screen and tone option on the icon better than the original Deus.

The menu is set up in 2 parts and it is an easier to configure menu system compared to the XP deus.

I guess the icon could be considered XP's first wireless aprroach to a turn on and go machine.

XP's FMF simultaneous multi frequency tech is definitely outstanding.

Icon's slightly hampered separation on your musket ball challenged target is just XP not trying to overly compete with itself.

Thanks for pointing out that brash, overdriven audio response on the larger aluminum screw cap. That type of audio response was less pronounced on Deus 1 and your other video shows it being basically absent on the ORX. Deus 2 definitely has that larger aluminum audio nuance and it's good to hear Icon has it too. I've been using it for years to help identify larger can slaw and aluminum screw caps.

Yes you are correct! I have found it to be a big challenge to find the V nickles too. I have found only 4 of those in my 40 years of detecting experience!!

Thank you jmc24 for taking the time to watch my straight forward little videos and I really appreciate your input on them as well!!

I like the shut up and see what the machine is doing approach too. It does a whole lot more than someone trying to tell you what the unit in hand is doing.

I am not one to be overly talkative by myself either even when making a video.....I just try to not stumble around for words!!

There is one thing I forgot to mention in my video with the icon and Deus and that is I had the icon in the park setting and I should have mentioned that.

Yes the square tone feature can bring out out more characteristics of the target the coil is swinging over.

That was one thing I noticed right off when I tried the icon out the first time in my test bed and I did want to point that out.

I chose the icon over the icon x due to the menu system and search patterns having just one save setting for each profile.

It is easier to manipulate that way.

I have found even with the Deus 2 that I only have 2 saved programs. This was another reason for buying the icon over the icon x remote for me.

I was not thinking of the possibility of an advantage with the 2 extra steps within the recovery speed function on the icon x.

So I emailed XP last night to ask them if there are any advantages of the icon x over the icon with recovery speed and depth.

I have screen shot my questions and also their reply.

In case you are thinking of getting one over the other this may help your choice.

Also TN Sharpeshooter posted a video response for me on the mono frequency choices the icon x has paired with the FMF 9 inch Deus 2 coil

The icon has 4.4khz, 17.6khz and 32khz with their offsets of course depending on which channel it lands on during the frequency scan or which channel low to highest you manually choose.

The icon x has 1 additional mono frequency and that is 40khz.

This in itself made me wonder if 40khz is would be much more of an advantage over 32khz for me where I live. However after thinking on it for a bit I do not really see a big enough difference that would have for a coin shooter and relic hunter like I am with my mild soil conditions.

But......... the 2 additional settings of the recovery speed has gotten me to thinking a little more about the icon x.
