The 705 can to some degree handle wet salt sand if in beach mode and with the sensitivity reduced, but for more than occasional use in these conditions, you need a PI unit or at least a multi frequency detector. JMHO.
 

I have a x-terra 70 and it is a coin and relic killer but . A few months ago I hunted gulf shores beaches and in dry sand it was great but in wet sand it was horrible. Wet sand being a foot or less from the water.
