Yesterday was Sunny, HOT and HUMID. Was hunting with the X70. Always have the Minelab rain cover on to protect from dirt.
Machine started running erratic. Noticed condensation on the LCD screen. Machine then died.
Went home and took the control box apart. Moisture was all inside the box with little droplets on the circuit board.
I'm wondering what lousy quality this Minelab is, if a hot humid day can stop it from working! Is the X70 only a FAIR weather machine? Minelab did not put any type of o rings, seals or protection inside the box like White's does.

HOW DO I CORRECT THIS PROBLEM????????????

By the way, dried out the whole thing, put it together and it still works.

Did you take it straight out of an air conditioned car? Any detector can get condensation doing that.Seals wouldn't help.IMO

Yes, I did take it out of the AC car. But, my DFX never had that problem.
I was thinking I should wrap the control box with a plastic bag and put a couple packs of dessicant inside. Do you think this would help to keep it from happening again?

Dessicant probably wouldn't help unless you leave the detector in the car 24/7.I would just transport it inside it's carry bag and give it some time to acclimate w/o the ac when you arrive at the destination before you take it out of the bag.

I think by leaving the rain cover on the unit on a hot and humid day is a bad idea. The rain cover face is plastic
and plastic traps moisture.

You guys are right about the AC and the plastic bag. As the air in the plastic bag heats up it condenses the air inside the detector. Keep the bag off the detector will help it breathe.

If the rain cover is useless for protecting the machine, why does Minelab give them with every XTerra?

How about if I fill the entire inside of the control box with silicone sealant? That way no moisture could ever contact the electronic components as the whole circuit board would be sealed.
