Yacht recovery live Italy

Looks like a person will have to keep checking back to see when the actual lift takes place. Drone pictures should eliminate the 650 yd cordon around the site.

Sadly, the salvage operation was halted by a local prosecutor in Termini Imerese on Friday after the tragic death of a diver working to remove a boom hinge on Bayesian’s mast in preparation for the lifting operation.

The incident was captured on CCTV by a support vessel and a full investigation into the accident is under way. It’s not clear when work will be allowed to resume.

Yes, it's terrible news. Unconfirmed reports are that the boom couldn't be freed with mechanical tools so he, plus colleagues, then tried cutting it free with some kind of blow torch. The boom may then have suddenly swung free with force.

When the operation ultimately resumes, the live feed will be here:

Do you think that boat can be salvaged and sail again? It surely would be incredibly expensive. Would you buy a car that’s been in a flood?

The sinking of the yacht and the death of seven people on board is the subject of a judicial investigation by the chief prosecutor of Termini Imerese (the same prosecutor who halted the salvage operation after the death of a diver on Friday.)

The main purposes of the salvage are to ascertain the cause of the sinking, establish liability, determine whether criminal charges should be brought, and prevent future accidents of a similar nature. Liability claims against the owner (Angela Bacares/Revtom Ltd.) could reach as much as $150 million. Since the yacht sank in Italian waters, under Italian law the owner is responsible for the cost of salvage (originally estimated at $30 million.) That cost is being funded by a consortium of insurers acting for the owner.

After the salvage, the yacht must be handed over to the Italian authorities to complete their investigation and it will be for the insurers to decide what happens to it after that. It’s highly unlikely it will ever sail again, and will most likely be scrapped.

The back story of the sinking and why the raising of the vessel.

The superyacht "Bayesian" (formerly "Salute") sank off the coast of Sicily, Italy, on August 19, 2024, after being struck by a powerful storm while at anchor. The yacht, owned by Angela Bacares, wife of tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, was celebrating Lynch's recent acquittal in a fraud case. Seven people died in the sinking, including Lynch. The yacht was eventually salvaged and is undergoing forensic examination.

Key Facts:
  • Date: August 19, 2024.
  • Location: Anchored off the coast of Porticello, Sicily, Italy.
  • Cause: Powerful storm.
  • Outcome: 7 deaths, including Mike Lynch.
  • Legal Investigations: A manslaughter and homicide probe is underway in Italy, and an inquest is open in the UK.
  • Salvage: The yacht was salvaged and is undergoing forensic examination.
Additional Details:
  • The yacht, built in 2008, had a 72-meter (237 ft) mast, one of the tallest in the world.

  • Of the 22 people on board, 15 were evacuated.

  • The salvage operation is ongoing, with delays due to weather and operational complexities.

The yacht has not yet been salvaged. Forensic examination so far has been confined to underwater video footage, the recovered bodies and pieces of equipment, including hard drives from computers on board which have footage from surveillance cameras.

Important part.
I wonder why that actually was stated in the general information provided.

Another good reason not to trust the Google sourced AI generated responses.

The original investigation by Italy authorities will probably continue with after the current investigation is completed.
The vessel certainly has gained more dark history with this latest tragic event.

The salvage operation recommenced last Thursday. The live feed isn’t yet operational again and there was supposed to be an exclusion zone around the wreck, but someone sneaked some drone footage of the yacht’s boom being recovered:

They now need to recover the yacht’s massive mast before the hull can be raised, planned for later this month.

I wonder they would of gone to such great lengths of a recovery if it was not for a super yacht for ultra wealthy and some famous wealthy influential people?. If it was Mrs and Mrs Joe crap on their vessel the Authorities would of not given a crap.

For sure, money is a driver but, since the authorities don't pay for the salvage (the owner has to pay, or the owner's insurers in this case), it makes no difference to the authorities either way. They just want to complete their investigation. Salvage and determination of cause and liability may be in the owner's insurers interests if they believe it could reduce any liability/compensation claim against them.

Good point! Ya just have to forgive my cynical outlook. There wealthy on board that have financial capacity to use the legal system to sue the ship builder for damages due to any faulty design or the company operating the charter boat with procedures that might of contributed to deaths of those on board. The insurers also have and interest in mitigating their costs in order blame the builder or the operators of the boat operators of charter boat. In short it will be in the court battle in which decides what percentage each insurers pay. With each insurer hoping to pay as little as possible.

The irony is that each claim is mitigated through the insurance industry anyway. end result over time policy prices go up.

The issue is not only with the yacht itself or the owner but also with similar designs. What happened there scars the s**t out of the billionaires class. What their are sold is very impressive looking rubbish. All those superyachts. Lots of leeches would loose their income if those super-rich babies would seek the advice from traditional shipbuilders.

Those people normally go from one marina to another if at all. Only anchor in the nicest of all weather in some pictures bay. That's what those floating houses are made for. Giving the comfort of land-life with the illusion of "personal" freedom.

If the super rich find out that its all a racket and their are as enslaved as the rest of earth population they may loose their appetite to live the life they do. The rest of the slaves would maybe start to understand that their life is for nothing and also loose all motivation. If not even the super-rich can buy freedom why would anyone lift a finger or get out of bed in the morning to work for misery salary?
