I found my first silver coin this morning. We had a nice rain last evening and it was somewhat cool and foggy here on the farm.So I decided to go out and give the MD a work out.It was the typical hunt.Nails, steel, cans, mason jar lids etc.Next thing I know I heard a signal and said to self. That sounds different.Started sifting through the plug and out comes nails.Ran the detector over the hole and it still made that sound I hadn't heard yet.Dug a little deeper and scanned that dirt and got a signal out of the hole. And there it was my first silver coin find.A seated 1839-O dime. What a blast.I love this new hobby. Happy Hunting everyone.

Congratulations HB you deserve it! Im happy you got it instead of me or Will. One hell of a rush isnt it! I knew something was going to come out of your farm besides nails and coke cans. Glad you stuck with it. All of those junk recoveries all seem worth while now dont they? Once again great find it could have not happend to a better guy.

Tom

Those axe things are pretty cool!

A first silver coin being a Seated is a rare feat, congrats on the great find and hope there's a lot more coming soon.

Smiles!

Hill Billy, well done on the first silver, I am very happy for you ;D The other finds are also very nice.... I would love to see a photo of the farm if possible, it sounds like a great place to live and to hunt.

God bless
Peter

Good Deal HB! Seated coins are hard to come by. You are really hooked now!

Great find! Congratulations on that first silver! What a way to start!

that's a keeper!

Now THAT's a fantastic find!!! It doesn't look like silver should look--no doubt from the soil where you are--but it is still a BEAUTY! Congratulations on this find. I am happy for you, and glad to see that all the hard work finally paid off. For every silver loss there is usually a copper or two. If those coppers are that old, they should be BIG coppers! I'm sure you'll learn more about the site as you continue to work it.

Cheers!

This hillbilly from SE KY has never found a seated. Truly incredible find for a first silver. But more than that it is the first silver so no matter the coin the experience is not replaceable.

Here's to more silver and great finds.

Way to go Hillbilly. Nice first silver, mine was a lousy merc. dime.
Oh yeah-I see you didn't scratch it,scrape it,ding it or damage it either. ;)

That beats hell out of my first old silver find - a 1920 SLQ.

What state are you in? What detector are you using?

Great find! You've also got an excellent collection of relics & stuff there.
Is there a logo on that knock-off hub? You can sell it on fleaBay!

I'd say you're hooked. Yup.

And just for the record, old Webster's dictionaries defined "hillbilly" as 'A Michigan dirt farmer'.
Just our luck we didn't copyright the term.

WTG!

I want to thank everyone that has commented on my find.I just purchased a Fisher 1266X from a treasurenet member a few weeks ago.I've only been detecting for 2 months with an older garret borrowed from a neighbor. Some friends recomended the Fisher and I am happy so far
What state are you in?
I live in central Ky

I would love to see a photo of the farm if possible, it sounds like a great place to live and to hunt.
I will try and take some pics of the farm and send them to you.
