It's inescapable........I've succumbed to the detecting bug........
Work has dried up for the holidays, the house is buttoned up for winter, the decorations are up, the detecting seasons' finds have been tumbled...........
THERE"S NOT ENOUGH TO DO TO STAY BUSY!!
So, I went out today in search of patches of ground that are not frozen.........with daytime temps below freezing and nighttime temps in the single digits finding those patches was not easy..........but, with some persistence...........

1220 Hunt.webp

I managed to get a few coins.........and a trinket.........
The good news is there is a heatwave coming later this week........4 consecutive days and nights of temps above freezing........I'm gonna need a fresh pack of batteries!!

Thanks for lookin' in and good luck finding good patches to hunt!!

That's funny I'm the same way the woods are good in the winter the ground is softer from the leaves I dress super warm and don't even notice the cold I also like to go in the rain I hit certain places were people usually are but wont be when its raining looking for jewelery. I'm freakin snowed in now 8 plus inches no ground in sight rrrrr Thank god for this site!!!!!

Thanks, Tommy.......I did discover today that the ground is still soft under the snow.......I guess it's a good insulator...........

Congratualtions on a productive hunt and "feeding" the detector demon in all of us! Keep up the good work...never give up! :occasion14:

Thanks, Doc. I'm still trying to figure out how to keep a decent pace through the winter months........but, with some advice from TNet members and some experimentation, I might just make it!!

Ah, yes, the fever! Good hunt with plenty finds. No nickels though? I like to dig nickels because I know I'll be digging gold if my coil ever happens to pass over it....

May your ground remain soft through the Winter!

Great to see you have the persistence to get out. That haul I'd consider treasure for most of us in the northern "climes" for late December!

Yup , you're addicted Chizzy ! , I am too . Several years ago I went detecting at an old dirt field in Santa fe , I got a signal that was a sure silver dime - problem was it was mid Dec. and the ground was so frozen - I could not dig this coin ! I actually marked the spot with sticks in an X pattern so I could hopefully find and recover when the ground thawed some . I actually thought about taking a plumbers torch over there

My first winter (starting on my third now) I was out 6 degrees 35 mph winds bundled up with a hatchet in my hand. I had to chop through 5 inches of ice to get to digable dirt. First target was a Wheat, second was a clad dime, third was a bottle cap. I waited for a warmer day after that. I remember thinking, really, a beer cap?

Congrats on feeding the Dragon Chizzy. :occasion14: I'd say you have it bad. I am $50 light from my goal this season, but I attribute that to the very dry July and August we had this year. It limited the sites I could hunt. Glad to see your still digging and seeing your finds helps me to keep from going into withdrawals.

Well done Chizzy!

Hopefully the weather will continue to cooperate with you.

Happy holidays!

Thanks, Deepseeker........yeah, no nickels. And, that's one of the criteria I use to rate my hunts. There weren't any changes in settings, just didn't come across any........

The frozen ground ended at the 2" mark.......but, boy it was a struggle to get through. Thanks, John.

I have given up (I think) on the metal detector for the season but just finished up setting up a magnet for some pre ice water hunting.

I was thinking about torching my Lesche for a minute or two before digging........but, with all my loose clothing I had visions of a human torch running through the fields!! :tongue3: Thanks for the addiction confirmation, Argentium.......btw, did you ever get that dime you marked?

Duplicate......tried to delete.........
