It's inescapable........I've succumbed to the detecting bug........
Work has dried up for the holidays, the house is buttoned up for winter, the decorations are up, the detecting seasons' finds have been tumbled...........
THERE"S NOT ENOUGH TO DO TO STAY BUSY!!
So, I went out today in search of patches of ground that are not frozen.........with daytime temps below freezing and nighttime temps in the single digits finding those patches was not easy..........but, with some persistence...........



I managed to get a few coins.........and a trinket.........
The good news is there is a heatwave coming later this week........4 consecutive days and nights of temps above freezing........I'm gonna need a fresh pack of batteries!!

My first winter (starting on my third now) I was out 6 degrees 35 mph winds bundled up with a hatchet in my hand. I had to chop through 5 inches of ice to get to digable dirt. First target was a Wheat, second was a clad dime, third was a bottle cap. I waited for a warmer day after that. I remember thinking, really, a beer cap?

That's a priceless anecdote, treblehunter!! The bottle cap line had me roaring with laughter..........thanks!!

Congrats on feeding the Dragon Chizzy. I'd say you have it bad. I am $50 light from my goal this season, but I attribute that to the very dry July and August we had this year. It limited the sites I could hunt. Glad to see your still digging and seeing your finds helps me to keep from going into withdrawals.

Thanks, Loco-Digger. I just had to get out. It was a great learning experience! I passed on my permissions this summer, too, but went after some of them in the fall when the rains came again.........the upside is that I still have 12 city, 4 church and 4 farm permissions ready for spring. If you are in the same position, you'll make up that shortfall in no time next season!!

I have given up (I think) on the metal detector for the season but just finished up setting up a magnet for some pre ice water hunting.

As a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Massachusetts, I need to inform you that there is no effective 12 step program for your addiction...As suggested by others afflicted with your obsession, I would suggest layering up and heading for the woods. That's my plan. HH.

I've cleaned my equipment and pulled the batteries 3 times.........not this time. The wife just laundered my diggin' clothes and everything is at the ready.
