Not being able to do much hunting, I've FINALLY been able to sort thru (year & mm) of approx 2300 Mercury dimes. Several hundred of these were hand-me-downs when my father & father-in-law pasted away some 30-40 years ago. And what is the biggest KEY coin of the Merc series, yep, the 1916-D. I've not only found one but two 16-D dimes, both are badly worn and you need a magnifying glass or a jeweler loupe to see the D, but they are there. I've tried taking pics but it doesn't show up.
I still have a few holes to fill in my lifelong folder, but these 2 fill the biggest holes. I've been coin collecting since the early 60's, and now FINALLY able to fill a missing coin slot in a folder.

Congrats, that's quite an accomplishment!

Not one but two 1916-Ds?...Yes, lightning can strike twice!
Congratulations!

They are most likely not worth much, BUT at least they are Fillers in the albums

You need to send them off to be certified, trust me I have a certified 1916D in AG about good and it is worth $800!

Even if it is "Fair" it is still a $500-600 coin, each. BUT there are so many counterfeits you need to have NGC or PCGS grade it. Personally I like NGC You can join for $150 and then get $150 in grading included or you can go through a local coin shop that accepts and sends coins to any of the big companies. I know the NGC website lists their affiliated dealers

Yes you have to get them authenticated. I was told when I found mine that only 232,000 were minted, but one million collectors have them in their collections!
