Yesterday's Civil War Flea Market Find!

Hello everyone,

The lady and I like to go sell at the flea market on the weekends that we are both off work. Yesterday happened to be the day we both had off so we packed the car and headed to the flea market. Usually I sell old glassware and other antiques, but yesterday I took some Civil War stuff with me. A guy came up and looked at the Minie Balls I had on the table, and asked if I would be interested in buying Civil War relics. I told him "of course!" We exchanged names and numbers and he went on his way. As the day went on, I had nearly forgotten about talking to him. We were about to pack up and head home when he came back with a large box. We started looking through the box and everything was all mixed in bags. The bags were full of bullets and a few buttons and other brass items. He said that he had been digging this stuff on his farm for years and has two more boxes at home full of relics. I asked him what he wanted for this box (figuring that I would have to spend the day's earnings on the lot). He said "it's been sitting in the closet for years just taking up space, so I'll take $50 for all of it." I handed him the money without hesitation. Once I got it home and started looking through the relics, I realized just how good of a deal this was. There were over 30 lbs of dropped and fired bullets, about 20 Eagle buttons, a few carved bullets, lots of thimbles (one silver), a company K hat letter, a bayonet, a spur and piece of another, two stirrups, part of a US plate, a name plate with "P L BAUER", tons of other brass camp items (not pictured), and the cream of the crop... a Confederate Block I Infantry button!! Too bad there weren't more Confederate relics in there, but I'm happy with what's here. I think I made a pretty good deal! Thanks for looking and Happy Hunting!

Re: Yesterday's Civil War Flea Market Find!

That block I button can be worth anywhere from $100 to $700 depending....I'd say you got a steal  Congrat's PF

Re: Yesterday's Civil War Flea Market Find!

awesome find!! Yes, I would be going after the rest!

Re: Yesterday's Civil War Flea Market Find!

I would like to offer my assistance to you in helping him clean up his farm!!!! ;D
I will make myself available most any weekend.

Re: Yesterday's Civil War Flea Market Find!

that block "I" button alone is worth more than the $50 you paid * -- you could easily triple your money on it no doubt -- sell it for $150 bucks and put yer cash back and use the profiets to buy the other 2 lots for "free" or keep it and unload the bullets at say $1 each to get up the $100 needed to get the other 2 "lots"-- I would for sure offer to buy the other 2 lots -- at worse even if its common stuff --the block button alone is worth the $150 "invested" --and by parting out the common stuff and making a few "civil war" shodow box displays for sale * at say 20 to 30 bucks --you can most likely easily get yer "invested" cash back.

That's just amazing! :o
Think of the wear and tear you saved your body from having to dig all that great stuff! :laughing7:
I too think you should find this guy and get those other two boxes from him pronto! :icon_thumright:

Re: Yesterday's Civil War Flea Market Find!

Thanks for the replies everyone! My buddy and I are heading down that way to do some hunting, so I'm definitely going to give him a call and see if he wants us to help clean up his fields  Hopefully I'll have another big post for tomorrow night! HH!

Re: Yesterday's Civil War Flea Market Find!

I would like to have one of those cleaner bullets , I have never found one so I guess I am going to have to buy one to put under glass on the mantel .
Hopefully I will find someplace to buy one someday. But so far no one has had one out for sale.

But I have to say these look good !
