Yesterday's Hunt with Mach 1 & Co.

Hello Everybody, DeArmittPa and I Hunted with the Mach 1 Pilot, His Son and Brother in Law yesterday morning. What a Blast ! This is without a doubt one of the best sites as far as numbers go that I have hunted, ever. The coins are rough as they came out of a pastures that may have been farmed and had fertilizer put on the fields in the past. The buttons came out faily well. Most had broken shanks as to why they were lost. Our hunt lasted close to 5 hours, I could have stayed there all day if we could have gotten away with it at home :D DeArmitt got the best coin of the day, what a surprise  The kid has got luck. His half-cent is an 1806 on pretty decent shape, also he got a Draped Bust Largie that is a no date. I got an 1804 half cent and some decent buttons including a large tombac. i also found a Trianglar shaped stone and flake from some stone tool making. If they ever plough the field I thinkit would be a great place to hunt arrowheads. The Pilot was learning a new machine :icon_thumleft: and I think his son found a button or two. Have Fun, Bob

Re: Yesterday's Hunt with Mach 1 & Co.

What was the Triangular shaped stone used for?

Re: Yesterday's Hunt with Mach 1 & Co.

I have no real idea about the stone. ??? From other accidental finds while digging targets in the field such as flint and chert as well as flake pieces the area was used by Native Americans. John who as had training in Geology said he does not feel it is a natural piece, Geofact. I think either they tied some kind of string around it and used it as maybe a necklace or it is an unfinished piece.

Very nice finds. What is the object to the far right in the top picture?

I think it was some type of jewelry. It was designed to spin ??? Just a guess

Nice :icon_thumleft:

If that's a watch fob in the right of your first picture that might be your best find of all. Nice going.

Nice half cent

Re: Yesterday's Hunt with Mach 1 & Co.

Yep, it was a great day to hunt at what is proving to be an outstanding site. So far between all of us we have pulled 7 coins dated between 1771 and 1806... 6 copper and one silver. ;D :hello2: And Bob has been scoring one pile of buttons! :icon_thumright:

As you can see Bob and John had a great day! :hello2: As soon as I get that Etrac figured out maybe I can join them in the fun... it sure is a different animal than the Garrett 2500. :)

Awesome drape busts...my personal favorite. My very first good coin was a 04 draped bust half cent. Gotta love em.
